This style of chair was also known as a Captains chair and boasts large proportions. The chair incorporates a curved, buttoned padded backrest, secured to mahogany wraparound upholstered arms, on shaped vertical supports. Below, the back incorporates a bank of vertical shaped spindles with shaped vertical arm supports. The chair has been newly upholstered with traditional horsehair filling and top quality full grain burgundy red leather, finished with hand-tacked brass studs to the perimeter. The seat has been re-sprung, to ensure it is firm but comfortable.
The underside of the seat has been covered with traditional hessian in the traditional manner. This beautiful piece sits on four splayed mahogany legs, terminating on solid brass & mug castors. The chair rotates 360 degrees and. The seat height can be adjusted by turning a ribbed metal screw on the underside of the chair.
The chair also features a reclining action, the tension of which can be adjusted by turning a small wheel at the front of the mechanism. The chair mechanism is in good working order, having been cleaned and serviced.
The chair is extremely comfortable to sit on. The chair exhibits a rich brown mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms in the home, especially the office or study as it is so comfortable. This item would certainly grace any home. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the mahogany frame but nothing significant considering the age of the item.
The chair has been newly upholstered with horsehair and top quality full grain burgundy red leather, which has been finished with hand-tacked brass studs to the perimeter. The underside of the seat has been recovered with hessian in the traditional manner. Therefore, the leather is in excellent condition, with no signs of wear and tear, damage or holes etc. The chair frame incorporates the traditional brass studwork tacks to the padded seat perimeter. The mechanism has been cleaned and serviced.
There is some play to the revolving mechanism but this is perfectly acceptable, and in line with the age of this piece of furniture. There are no breaks to the cast iron revolving mechanism. The chair frame features a rich brown mahogany colour, having been cleaned and polished in our workshops. The chairs incorporates solid brass castors, which are also in good condition. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
